monologue of one lost in love

is how i thought of it; but
slower than the day dawned it came along to me
simpering in that rainy light insistent it came along
didn't you see me looking across at you
(you must have been sleeping still behind lids
beside me sleeping) i looked across at you
crows pecking and cawing at the air outside
brief noise, brief moment that woke me;
but i thought it was instant when in fact
i was awake in that early insistent light
peeling open my eyelids looking rather askance
(and you still sleeping) at the light and at-
i was awake i swear, watching you there and the crows'
haiku out there i swear i saw it happen-
my something cracked open spilled out slow
i couldn't stand it that persistent ache
there in the cold crow dawn cloudy and chilled
encircled by your arm where along to me returning
creeping criminal and somehow coy
came my love.
