we made this barley casserole tonight for dinner (with less butter, pumpkin seeds instead of pine nuts, plus peppers and chicken sausage) and it was so good! my new favorite. we were so hungry i couldn't even get a picture before it was half devoured, and now i have tasty leftovers for lunch this week.

i made quiche for the first time tonight, in a new tart pan (with removable bottom!) that i bought especially for this. (okay, maybe also for other nefarious dessert purposes.) it was so simple, could easily be made in a regular pie crust if you add a few extra eggs. click click click for the full recipe at flickr.

i finally found this long-lost and much-cherished recipe today, while obsessively sifting through old boxes of journals and notebooks from 1998ish. i found envelopes full of old collage remnants, essays written in italian that i can barely read anymore, packets of articles i loved, postcards and magazine pages. it was a nice way to lose a couple hours of the afternoon.
