Mar. 7th, 2005 09:52 amthere is a loose manhole cover on our street. just a few nights ago, it started making this CLANGCLANG noise very loudly every time a car drove over it. our street isn't quiet by any means, but this noise CLANGCLANG stands out very clearly, and it wakes us up at night. the best part is that it's exactly in the middle of the street, so traffic in both directions hits it. CLANG. CLANG.
i called the public works and said fix it please, and they said that because it's not an emergency situation, no one could deal with it until the week started. i had visions of rolling that manhole cover allll the way over to mayor curtatone's house, and dropping it repeatedly in the street until he woke up. (you know, with my supergirl strength.)
.
deadwood season 2 premiered last night. i forgot how dense the language is....you really have to pay attention to understand all the bizarre code-speak and western slang. some episodes are worse in that regard than others. some of the characters speak in iambic pentameter; others speak in true soliloquoys. there are guns, and sex, and gold, and liquor, but beyond that it's a thick stew of emotional entanglements and posse warfare that is rather hard to follow. i'm interested to see where it goes this season. there was a definite loss of momentum and urgency, and i'm hoping it picks up soon.
