last night on on-demand we watched:

1. eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
2. troy
3. latest episode of six feet under

e.s.o.t.s.m. i have nothing to say about that has not already been said, except i would like to know when/how charlie kaufman will make a total break with reality. his themes and protagonists are too similar and i really wonder how much farther he can go with that.

troy was laughably bad -- we didn't even finish it, though i suppose we might, tonight. i had a summary of the achilles myth & the trojan war up on my laptop and played a game where i tried to guess the character's names before they were revealed in dialogue, based on what i read (briseis/chryseis, polyxena, all failures, i think i got hector and nestor correct). i was very sad that they did not go into the whole iphegenia sacrifice thing, and i bet they won't get to the clytemnestra part, either; also they left out the gods entirely, except for the occasional vague reference. in general it seemed very flat, i guess i was expecting something akin to gladiator, which at least had some interesting cinematography. also, troy's costumer should be shot, it was HORRIBLE. midriff-skimming blue suede fringe tunic things? they made the really really gay scenes on the boat with legolas & his lame brother even more campy. (also, shouldn't that have been a trireme? or a bireme? i guess it was a uni-ream since the only oarsmen were on the top deck. incredibly lame.)
