there is a burst water pipe in the basement. or rather, in the wall between our bathroom and the basement stairs. there's a waterfall going down the rickety wooden basement stairs and over an inch of water down there. i went slogging around in it in my boots because i was terrified it had seeped into the boxes with my old journals in them - so i went and propped them up on other stuff.

god. so much water. we are waiting for the sillari's plumber to call us back.

all fixed, sort of. apparently our shower valve has been leaking into the wall for a long time, too, so he had to fix that as well. the fun part was listening to him curse to his assistant about the plumber who fixed our pipes last year, because he broke a huge hole in the wall & never fixed it. which probably has a lot to do with why they burst again. you know, who needs walls? it's 15° below? let them burst, who cares. it is pretty amazing to me, though, that frozen water is strong enough to break metal.

sigh. the sillari realty/plumbing/funeral/law syndicate is so corrupt. it's fun to be a part of it, except when they screw you over.

Oh no! I hope that gets fixed quickly and that nothing gets damaged.

I had a flood in my basement a few years back. I lost all of my paper and a bunch of my artwork that had been stacked on the floor. It was terrible.

the plumber is hacking away at the walls right now, but i don't know how they'll drain out the water. i think some of the other tenants' furniture will be fairly damaged, depending on how well the wood was sealed, etc.

mainly it just pisses me off --- our pipes froze twice last year and burst once. the section of the house holding our bathroom is very poorly insulated (if at all) and this is just more evidence of how many corners they cut.

man, i am not leaving those boxes down there, as soon as the water's gone. what a disaster area.
