today:

1. little fields of daisies among the pine trees next to the house
2. lunch in a pub in an elementary school filled with strange & compelling art, lanterns, pews, mosaics
3. 1408 was not really that great
4. steamed pork buns from the asian market on 82nd

i feel like i should be taking pictures but i can't download them until my laptop arrives on monday. and without the ability to download i think of the camera as dead.

tomorrow we may go see the rose city roller derby girls tussle it out at the expo center. i haven't seen a game since i broke my ankle last summer -- we tried to go to one while i was still on crutches and i had a panic attack in the car, made kirk take me home. i think this will go better. i keep dreaming about skating again, but in waking life i'm still not yet strong enough to wear shoes with a heel. & weird aches go all through the hardware when i move sometimes.

i really am not going to be able to read these entries of yours without feeling intensely miserable for not being in portland right now.....sniff. :(

is 2. the kennedy school place? we never got a chance to go there....it came highly recommended, though.

aw :(

yes, the kennedy school. it was a mcmenamin's pub, and i find their beer is only okay. but the restaurant itself was beautiful and amazing. ditto the movie theatre in the old auditorium. the whole converted-elementary school thing was just neat.

we managed to spend a week up there without setting foot in a single mcmenamin's establishment--strange!

I have never been to see rose city rollers! I wanted to go to a bout last year but I never got around to it. then I wanted to try out but a) I am really too busy and b) I haven't roller skated in like.. 20 years?

never been to kennedy school, but I luv the bagdad. $3 movies! McMenamin's seasonal winter beer (kris kringle ale) is really good but I don't care much for their other stuff. or it doesn't stand out, at least.

p.s. this post makes me feel nostalgic for portland, and I live here! I think I need to get out more.

we didn't end up going to see the bout saturday, but i do want to go to one this summer. we should meet up and go together!

do you still live in clackamas? and are you anywhere near ccc?

we SHOULD. I do still live in clackamas, off of 82nd, right next to Clackamas Town Center. I'm not too far from CCC and the barn where I ride is even closer, off of Redland Rd, which is off Trail's End Hwy. I think it's just a few miles away.

what are you guys doing for the 4th?

redland road is off of 213 (i've never heard it called trail's end hwy before, it is a charming name), which is the highway you take to get to my parents' house! there are so many barns out here (if you have $1.2 million you can buy a pretty sweet horse boarding operation close by us), i figured it had to be near. if you were to drive up 213, turn left on beavercreek road and go several miles, my parents live off of spangler on south brockway. wayyyy out there.

you should come visit! i don't think we have any plans for the 4th yet...we might be having a barbecue here. would you like to join us? my mom returns from camp on friday, and until then i won't know if there are any plans. but maybe that means *i* should start planning something :)

brockway was the name of the cafeteria in my dorm, freshman year!

I think 213 is called trail's end highway for about 1/2 a mile :)!

I wondered about your independence day plans because we have a terrific view of the fireworks downtown from our balcony at the opera, and you are welcome to attend (& bring the whole family, if you want)! although I might take you up on that barbecue possibility!

this comment brought to you by exclamation marks !
