Jul. 10th, 2004 07:01 pmtoday we went into harvard square to go book shopping. i bought Sorcery & Cecelia - or - the Enchanted Chocolate Pot, subtitled "being the correspondence of two Young Ladies of Qualify regarding various Magical Scandals in London and the Country." i bought this based on an excellent recommendation from
nevers, who knows a good YA novel when she sees one! i am only a few pages in so far, and it is very good. we also got the black veil by rick moody, an autobiography, on sale for $5. yay autobiographies! even dark, horrifically depressing ones.
then we went to leavitt & pierce, a tobacco & gentlemens supply store. oh gosh such a fun store. everything from big sacks of loose pipe tobacco to tiny pipe tool sets to vintage-style shaving supplies to old world colognes to chess sets to cufflinks. we were there to buy a go set, after talking about getting one for so long. also, you can buy old cigar boxes there (50 cents for cardboard, $1 for wooden) from a big crate in the corner, and you put your money in a little jar next to the crate. i bought an old wooden one and now it is holding all the little things from my bedside bookshelf that the cats like to knock down every day.
we played a long first game of go this afternoon, sometimes it makes my head hurt. i suspect sometimes we are too non-confrontational about playing each other, kirk and i. like, see? we can play around each other and not get into nasty territorial fights! ha. now i want a special game table. low and square and with little drawers. yes. maybe i will ask dad to make me one.
i have the following word stuck in my head: pondicherry.
