a sampling of piegan words, the english translation, and the longer meaning. piegan is the language of the blackfeet tribe in montana. these fascinate me.

amsskaapipikaniikoaksi far-off spotted robes (tribe today referred to as the blackfeet tribe of montana)

iihtaipiinitakio'p plow (it tears the ground to pieces)
iitaipa'ksiksini'kayi pakki'pistisi september (when the berries are mushy)
sopokssi dollar bill (leaf)
issistsaakii wolverine (in the form of a woman)
isstsimamsskaapoo pineapple (reluctant to go south)
sikihtsisoo moose (dark moving away into the brush)
ponoakaomitaa horse (elk dog)
kakato'si star (star, mushroom, puffball)
