oh man. we have been watching rollergirls on a&e and i am obsessing and crushing a little bit on roller derby. the local league, boston derby dames claims to be training new players, too.

however, what i should really do is visit a rink and fall on my ass and remember what a crappy rollerskater i am. (at least, i think i am. i can't say i ever went into it wanting to knock people over or lap anyone on the track. but then, who does at 12 years old, when you're more concerned about who's looking at you and who's going with who during couples skate? hmm.)

I have seen ads for rollergirls but I haven't watched it. I am SO bad at roller skating. I never really learned how to turn, and then rollerblades became popular and so I never learned how to really roller skate. but it sounds like such fun!

there's also a serious kickball league here in PDX, and dragonboating, etc. I guess I have to start looking!

i'm okay at it, my grandfather was/is a big hockey fan and we all had hockey skates before we were 6, so the turning thing was fairly easy when i learned how to rollerskate. i never did the rollerblades thing, either, they seem so ugly, too. but the skates the roller derby girls use are pretty cool, old school but without that heel that most rental skates have.

kickball! that would be fun. i remember seeing dragonboat races at the rose festival when i was young -- so pretty! i hope you find a fun group, that sounds like such an ideal way to find a new group of friends.
