got my eyes checked last week and now kirk and i have to go find some frames. at our doctor's office everything was ridiculously expensive ($300+ for designer crap) so i've been using framesdirect.com to look at prices. they have this awesome/craptastic tool so you can preview what the glasses might look like.

ignoring the fact that the only straight-on photo i could find on flickr was one where i had evidently just finished crying, here is what i came up with:

candies 'sandy' $64
nine west #67 $84

(luckily i have cheap taste!) i'm not sure if i like either of them, really. (i think my uploaded photo is weird...too small so everything looks huge?) and maybe i will find something i like at the mall. if they can beat the price for lenses (mine are $99 at high index from framesdirect.com) maybe we will just order the lenses there, too.

siiiiigh. i don't like glasses shopping. though i do hate being blind right now. everything kind of swims a little, especially computer screens. and i am too broke to buy new contacts right now. $450 for one pair, if you can believe that. my eyes suck.

ETA: also my taste is monotonous. i kept gravitating toward frames that were ever so slightly cat-eyed like these ones. all my faves were variations on this theme. so at least i'm consistent.

I like the second pair, the way they're just a little pointier and less round.

I am very self-conscious about trying on things and/or studying my reflection in front of people, so glasses-buying especially kills me, because it's so public. You don't get to go to a dressing room or anything.

yeah, i dig the pointiness too. i just wonder if they will be much wider in real life and look weird. in general, looking weird is what i'd like to avoid. in life. ha.

i don't trying glasses on, i just find it impossible to get used to what they look like in such a short time. every pair looks weird, just because it's so unfamiliar.

that's what happens to me. it was so helpful to have heather come glasses shopping with me this last time.

WAIT!

I have 1/2 off coupons for you to LensCrafters or to Sears Optical!!!

DON'T buy your glasses online. They take no measurements and they just guess. It totally freaks me out for people with high RXs. Plus, they are made usually somewhere outside the US and the quality standards are non-existent. Please please please take me up on my coupon offer. Send me your addy!

Oh and LC has a digital camera in the store now so you can see yourself.

On that note -- the last time I had to get new glasses (mine always cost a fortune because I have terrible vision, very different in both eyes, plus astigmatism) I had a coupon for LensCrafters and the lady there was like "oh, actually I can give you a better discount, let me find what our best coupon is right now." not going to say it made it cheap, but it was probably 60% off from what it would have been. So it may be worth a try just to ask them what's the best discount you can get. -laurel

last time i got new lenses they cost almost $400. just the lenses. but i love my glasses, and i am firmly anti-contacts, so i don't complain (too much). that said, i favour the first pair. the shape of them suits your face more than the second pair.

i'm so torn about the two! but i'm going to try to ignore them until i can try stuff on in the store. i'm still convinced this isn't their true size/proportion.

[ unless one has private medical coverage (which i don't) then getting glasses here is wretchedly expensive, too. and the process is made all the more frustrating by having to find the right frames etc. and then, when you do, they usually end up being the $500 prada frames or something. i've had mine for two-ish years now and i know i should go and have an eye exam, get the lenses updated etc, but that's not even anywhere close to affordable right now. i did end up getting designer frames, but not to be a wanker, just because i fell in love with them and they looked the best, but even then i'd spent over a year saving up the $700 plus it ended up costing. the optometrist had a really good special on at the time, so i got two pairs, but it's still so fucking expensive! i like both of these frames on you. have you tried any rectangular shaped frames? it's impossible to know what suits without trying them, i know, but i just wondered ... in a dream world, i'd suit lisa loeb-esque frames, but that's never gonna happen. dammit. ]

i know that as soon as i try on some pairs in the store i won't be able to order these nice cheap ones online, because i can't know for sure they'll be good. i would probably pay a lot for a decent looking pair, especially as i would like to wear them instead of contacts for a while.

rectangle shapes are not the best for my face, i've found. i *always* try them on, though, because i think they look so cute on the right person :)

[ but, yeah, ps. i think i like the second pair the best. i don't know why. the slight cat's eye pointishness, i think. ]

i'm so torn!
i'm going to bring the camera to the store so kirk and i can decide by looking at a photo instead of staring into weird bright mirrors and whatnot.
