Nov. 11th, 2001 08:28 pmtoday i slept very late. then i woke up and i ran. i ran a lot. i ran farther than ever before. the wind pushed me around like a child, but all those uphills and those gravel driveways, they just lengthen my stride. i'm invincible. i'm cut glass. i'm sparkling.
we dressed up to go to memorial hall. i didn't know what to expect, because really, it does look like a cathedral. and indeed: inside it was all golden wood and columns and marble statues and the steep slope of faces climbing up to the ceiling. we sang the starspangled banner. j was nearly late, but only missed the handel: because you see, the requiem was after the intermission. we had to cleanse the palate, get rid of that fussy soprano soloist aftertaste.
i cried when they started the mozart, those familiar strains. it was soaring and melancholy and perfect even though the lachrymosa was a hair fast and i felt like my pulse was connected to the violin's vibration, i felt like i was living a million minutes for every measure of sound. it was stunning.
today there are strange rumblings in the air. currents underfoot. i've got my eyes open.

antony, i thought a lot about you today and yesterday. recently, in general, i think about you a lot.
