quello che nasconde la sua verita
Jul. 23rd, 2001 03:58 pmRome and Treja share the mystery of their names. Rome is a name-mask, that which hides its truth. We will never know what this name was, as we will never know what strange or masked creature gave Treja her name. There is no exact etymology; one can only see something that disappears, as through a fluctuating veil. From an unrecoverable mystery Treja was born, but the letters of her name were always here and there, scattered upon the land.
my favorite piece of the translation, today. it is such satisfying work, although the dictionary grows ragged from flipping back and forth in the interminable s section. slancio, sfocciando, smisurata, sfacciato. i lean into the tone of dolores' voice and it is so familiar, like reentering the hibernation of last january when i absorbed the last of the book in a fury of afternoon reading.
i listen to belly on the stereo: somewhere to sleep/somewhere to scrape your body off my feet...
