Apr. 29th, 2004 05:00 pmtoday is the first true blue-sky sunny spring day we've had. leaf-buds on the trees, a few flowers here and there. the first skirt-and-bare-legs day. ahhh. already i'm scheming to visit relatives & such with pools and barbecues and deliciously swimmable lakes.
on saturday afternoon kirk & i and liz (from work) & mike are going to meet for coffee and then walk around and enjoy the somerville open studios events. there are several studios on highland avenue near our house, although our neighborhood isn't very artsy until you get a lot closer to davis square. we are close to #50 on the map.
then at 3:00ish we board the train to providence, for the kentucky derby party chez
mthrtongue &
lazurstzthmt. they provide the mint juleps, and we are bringing my favorite special gin & tonics.
five limes
bombay sapphire gin
tonic
cut four limes in narrow coins. put in a pitcher with adequate gin. muddle with a wooden spoon and crush the limes a bit. let gin & lime infuse in the fridge for an hour or more. add lime wedges & tonic immediately before serving. also good with cracked (not crushed, not whole) ice.
