May. 24th, 2004 10:39 amafter having a fabulously lazy sunday with kirk (brunch with cartoons, playing video games all day, naps although i slept 12 hours the night before, tasty lunch & lots of HBO & Extreme Makeover: Home Edition after dinner) during which i absolutely most definitely did not go to the gym, i was all set to go this morning. really, i was. but when i woke up at 6:15am or so, it was to the sounds of a terrifically loud thunder-and-lightning storm outside. the lightning couldn't have been more than a mile & a half away, and the rain swept in so suddenly & violently that i had sleepy confused thoughts of going outside to perch an umbrella over the air conditioner so the rain wouldn't sound so loud on its metal box. noisy, noisy morning. i skipped the gym.
i am wearing a pedometer today! yes, i got it at mcdonalds. so far today i have walked 549 steps. sorry, my review at the above link is not nearly as interesting as it could have been, but that's what i get for posting in the blog while sitting on the floor with a laptop, trying to digest mcdonalds food for the first time in several years.

Date: 2004-05-24 08:26 am (UTC)it is really simple, too. heavy-duty clip, and the count display screen is inside the flip-open top so it can't get crushed or damaged by everyday wear & tear. plus it is smaller than any others i've seen. it only has one button, for the reset. i love it for sheer simplicity. i got an orange one :/ but they do have nicer colors. for $6 i may just buy another one to get a backup for this one.

Date: 2004-05-24 08:29 am (UTC)i must say your emphasis on the iceberginess of the lettuce doesn't leave me very keen on harvesting it :)
the next question is where on earth there's a mcdonalds near me. though i'm sure their website would be happy to tell me.

Date: 2004-05-24 08:36 am (UTC)i am sure others are much more sophisticated, but that is the basic mechanism of all pedometers. i have seen some that are meant to be worn on the shoes, too. some are also 'talking calorie counters', which i picture as an amusing computer voice loudly announcing what you've eaten that day as you walk past everyone on the sidewalk. TWO COOKIES FROM BREAKROOM, APPROXIMATELY 850 CALORIES. 4,000 MORE STEPS NECESSARY TO NEGATE AFOREMENTIONED COOKIES. or something like that. ha.
yes, the iceberginess was disappointing. perhaps i overexaggerated, though. i think the airport salad is a good comparison: it is definitely less icebergy than several airport salads i've had. also there are much better salads than the fiesta one---there is a california chicken one, which would have been much better, but i was in a rush to get out of there and wasn't really in it for the salad to begin with :)
