Aug. 14th, 2005 03:04 pmwe are now almost all the way moved in now. with the rental truck yesterday we ferried over everything that wouldn't fit into a car or wasn't needed overnight, and now we are a little settled in. we are scamming wifi off the neighbors (comcast comes to install ours tomorrow), which is nice...i had thought we would be internetless for the weekend. i am lying on my bed in the bedroom with the pale striped wallpaper and bamboo blinds, everything is a gentle afternoon-yellow.
pippa and milous came over in the car last night, in towel-draped carriers. on liz's advice, we set them up in the office with familiar things and a blanket tent to hide under, and food and the litterbox, with the door closed. pippa came out and stalked around meowing loudly and curiously, but milou sat in her carrier and was quite scared. when we went to bed last night we left all the doors open for them, and by the morning milou had curled up beside me on the bed. she's curled up at my feet right now. it is as i predicted---they are overwhelmed by all the open space, the lack of places to hide, but they are slowly becoming accustomed to it, as are we.
now the suffocatingly humid day is breaking into bursts of thunder, which has set off a car alarm in the neighborhood. but otherwise it is so quiet here...no busy street, no stink of city sidewalks, no ambulances speeding by. just our own music and footsteps. i like this new life a lot.
