camping at the beach

at cape perpetua in the siuslaw national forest. we could hear (but
not see) a creek rippling past us on one side, and we were secluded
from the road by a little hill we had to walk down to get to the site.
so lovely.
breakfast at camp. it was still a little drippy from the rainy night
when we made these. i brought bob's red mill buttermilk pancake mix in
a big tupperware bowl and some of our neverending blueberry supply.
then we went to the oregon coast aquarium:
here you can see the massive half-dead stump/nurse log that sheltered
our campsite:
we didn't get to do near enough exploring -- i was tired and took naps
in the afternoons. on the final day it was very rainy and we had to
pack up the tent and all our gear in heavy, drippy, misty weather. it
didn't really inspire us to cook our planned eggs and sausage
breakfast, so instead we escaped to yachats and ate in a cafe instead.
after our rainy, mucky morning and our nice hot breakfast, we didn't
really want to go hiking around on the misty beaches, so instead we
just drove the 3 hours home. kirk learned how to build a campfire and
do all kinds of campy things. we read by the campfire and told stories
and roasted s'mores and did stupid stuff like try to put up the rain
fly first, thinking it was the tent, but it was a lot of fun.
