things i should be doing every day, according to the doctor, physical
therapist, chiropractor, and masseuse:

calf raises
seated piriformis stretch
hamstring stretch
hip flexor stretch
balancing on one foot
ankle circles
ankle flexes
'angels' to open my shoulders
foot squinching thing for plantar strength
something for abs
tailor pose
pelvic tilt thing for sacrum mobility
squats
don't sit at your desk all day long
lie on a tennis ball to release piriformis tension

malformed little hobbling jesse! stiff leg, weak core, bad feet,
misbehaving ankle.

little broken bits, okay, but could i really do all these daily? plus
an evening walk? the list seems vaguely approachable but then i recall
that in the evenings i get home so tired that i just lie down on a
heating pad and cannot get up without making my piriformis freak out
and strangle my sciatic nerve.

(the more i read through this list the more it sounds suspiciously like yoga.)

writing it all down helps me understand that guilty/rebellious feeling
when i go to an appointment and report that no, i haven't been doing
[insert exercise here]. yesterday i did ankle circles while balancing
on the opposite foot, though: multi-tasking! & i usually remember my
hamstrings because they get noticeably tight, but none of the rest of
it. there are so many of them, and none of them are coordinated or
prioritized by the various medicos, even though they all get at
roughly the same problems.
