Sep. 8th, 2004 09:20 amholy moses, what a downpour this morning!
i left the house thinking i could just walk to work as normal, maybe get a little bit damp, who cares. instead, within two blocks of home my sneakers were going *squilchk* at every step, my pants were wet from the knees down, and i had to move my (mostly waterproof) messenger bag around to my stomach to keep my work clothes inside from getting soaked.
i was even MORE soaked by the time i got to the subway. and i abandoned all thought of caring for what was and wasn't wet, and stepped in every giant streaming puddle i could find on the rest of the way to work. i think my walking pants are now six inches longer from being so wet & weighed down. ugh.
you know the rain is pretty bad when shopkeepers are huddling under their awnings just to look at the torrential sheets of rain pouring down on the street and you can hear them joking to each other, yeah it looks like it's letting up! and then laugh like maniacs and go back inside.
so is this frances the hurricane or what? it's supposed to be like this all week.

Date: 2004-09-08 08:09 am (UTC)even better, i should have been smart and stayed in the square for five minutes and bought lunch this morning, when i was already soaking, but instead i came to work, have no lunch, and will have to don my still-soaked clothes and go back out in it at some point! lame! thankfully it's not as bad now as it was, but still. i do have a package of ramen noodles sitting around and i'm lamely hoping to be content with that + a little diligent scrounging! i'm so lazy :P
