aslantwe are back from texas. all in one piece, the house is fine, and the cats did fine without us. when we walked in the door, pippa looked so ridiculously tiny, in comparison to the great fat cats at kirk's parents' house we've been harassing all vacation long. our poor tiny neglected darlings ran around like crazy and sniffed at everything we brought in, but they are a little more settled now.
so this first christmas-away-from-my-family went very well, i think. texas even had a little snow. i think, in the end, spending holiday time with relatives is only ever marginally more or less tolerable with one's own family than with somebody else's. equal chances of nervousness or awkward moments, either way.
we spent a lot of time with eric, drinking and talking and playing endless dominoes. also risk, which i had never played before
(i won!) and castle risk, which ended in a draw (we declared 'modern world'). and also we spent a couple nights with david and kerri, who have a new third dog, a ginormous freaking gray great dane puppy, zeus. we are missing the big new year's party there, but that is okay. the alcohol does not do me any good...i did have one bad night, fell into a sort of black hole. the alcohol can make that a lot worse, and drinking is really the only thing there is to do in levelland.
all of our pictures are on kirk's camera, not sure if i will get them any time soon. but we got to see the cotton fields at their most beautiful, all the bolls full and bursting out and endless brown and white fields of it. so beautiful.
