Jan. 23rd, 2005 06:43 pmthe first photo in the nytimes "today's cleanup" slideshow was taken from my bus stop! how bizarre - a reuters photographer is lurking amongst us. so odd to see photos of somerville everywhere, especially this one. i stare at those same four houses every single morning.

Date: 2005-01-24 03:05 am (UTC)It'll be interesting to see how we handle the larger projects we're now working on, the ones that will require a few months to finish up. Some of us (myself included) have been working on them with certain expectations based on the former department leadership. I wonder how those dynamics will change. I'm sure they will ... just hope we can all keep our clients happy in the mean time and that they understand what we're going through.
This whole "strategic planning" has been frustrating. I've been in complete agreement from the start that changes needed to be made, but our department isn't that big, and a bunch of us haven't been included AT ALL in any of the planning or discussion sessions over the last two years. I think that's inexcusable. I remember saying three years ago (when administration was first talking about reorganizing) that it sounded to me like they wanted to go with more of an "agency" structure. I was told to mind my own business. Well, guess what. We're now set up more like an agency, but without thinking through any of the grey areas, and it's going to get us in trouble.
What can you do. It's an academic setting, and I'm without a degree, so what the hell do I know? Experience counts for nothing with these people.
