a guy just crashed a plumber's van into the brick wall that surrounds our building. i saw a cloud of white smoke rising from the wall immediately afterwards, passing a facing window. i ran downstairs to the street because no one else watching at the windows seemed to want to. one man had watched the driver having a seizure as he crossed the intersection, another passer-by was a doctor and asked him questions until he came out of his fog and the paramedics arrived.

it's sad to look at. the wall is six feet high, and a huge van-shaped piece is buckled inward, pushing into the lilac bushes and the rhodedendrons. they'll have to take down a large part of the wall to repair it, exposing the side of the building to a large intersection. from where i was standing, i could see right in the front windshield, and he looked right at me. i watched the paramedics gingerly help the man out of his seat. for a moment he stopped trying to get up and banged on the steering wheel, swearing at himself.

Having a seizure disorder myself, and driving every day, this scares me.

I think about having an accident quite often. I just hope my medication never fails me.

i know you've spoken of your medications before, but i never made the connection that you had a seizure disorder. forgive me if i've been dense.

from the doctor's questions & the driver's answers, it sounds like he was pretty faithfully taking his dilantin, but who knows what else was going on with him. are there any indications, immediately before, that would make you pull over to the side of the road, just in case?

Most people experience some sort of aura before they have a seizure. I've only had three in my life, but never had any sort of aura or warning feeling at all (which is of course bothersome).

I've never had one while on my meds, but who knows. Stress and lack of sleep can contribute to seizures even if you're taking your medication.

a girl i knew at school had seizures fairly frequently, she said once that it felt like the world was ending, literally, but she couldn't tell anyone. i thought that was neat, in a greek-prophet kind of way.
