sea leavings
Jun. 4th, 2006 08:21 pmwhat we found on the shore today:

not pictured: a 12-inch fish skeleton, crab shells, razor clams, a single scallop shell, regular clams, dozens of seagulls, two mounted policeman, a handful of seawall fishermen, assorted adorable dogs and old folks and small children out walking as well, plus one marmalade cat in the neighborhood who studiously ignored us on the walk back.
it was this big:

(a quarter for comparison)

Date: 2006-06-05 05:12 pm (UTC)the beach we were on yesterday, the tide throws up a fair amount of rocks and shells, plus there are lots of seabirds always eating clams and sea snails and crabs and leaving the shells behind. it's unusual to find them so big and so whole, though. this is the same beach where we found all that seaglass after the storms a couple months ago, too.
i wish you could see it! we were there around 8pm, sky rather grey with clouds but enough light to beachcomb without needing sunglasses, my favorite time of evening.
