the neighbor's horses got out again this morning. i drove along the road at 7:15 and the three of them looked up guiltily from the other side of the of the road. it was misty and very grey. the road is very narrow and two cars can just barely pass -- the horses would have to move in order to me to drive past. i drove up to them very slowly, honked once, and herded them slowly back toward their house, until they moved to one side, at a lazy amble.

i felt a little outnumbered. the tallest one, a massive chestnut beast, stooped a little and looked at me reproachfully through the window, for disturbing their illicit roadside feast, before i drove off. i felt like i had been scolded for a killjoy.

i called home from the road, waking up my dad. i just herded three horses with my car, i said.

what happened to you this morning?

So not as exciting as herding horses with a car

I woke up at seven when the advil wore off. Then went back to sleep and had very strange dreams until it was no longer morning.

strange dreams are cool, but mainly, i am acutely jealous that you slept past seven! getting up at 6am for my new job this week has been unpleasant.

i've had similar experiences where my family lives. except there, it's not horses, it's cows.

this morning i got up and bought fish and plants for my new tank. happyhappy.

[ i went down the road, to the shops, to collect my swag of saturday newspapers, and patted a very friendly labrador whose owner had tied his leash to the leg of the bench while she did her shopping. i'd never be able to do that -- i'd be too afraid somebody would take off with toby! i also hung three loads of washing on the line. the weather here is appalling already: thirty degrees in the shade and blistering hot, humid and sticky. i shudder to think what it'll be like come november and december. i hate summer. argh. ]
