finished my taxes last night, though i barely averted a mini-breakdown in the process. kirk received a 1099-misc with "non-employee compensation" and it made everything all screwy.

basically turbotax has hidden calculation sheets to create your Schedule C and it is IMPOSSIBLE to edit some of the information that is in there, once you have gone through the interview the first time. subsequent edits only let you edit certain items.

the only solution is to DELETE your hidden Schedule C worksheets. you would not believe how many dozens of people have pleaded with the stupid online question service HOW DO I EDIT MY SCHEDULE C and either no one answers them, or they tell them to go through the stupid interview which DOES NOT WORK. no one mentions there is a hidden way to delete the hidden worksheets.

once i figured this out, i wanted to go through all the unanswered schedule C questions and answer DELETE YOUR WORKSHEETS AND BE FREE, MY BROTHERS.

it is crazy! i've never had this problem with turbotax before. but then, i guess i've never had anything with a 'hidden' calculation worksheet, either. glad to hear it worked out for both of us, in the end!

i cannot tell you much i have enjoyed doing taxes, being single by the law, & only having one job, in one state, over the course of one year.

i know! my taxes were clean and beautiful in 2005, same situation. i have to say, it was dead simple filing as married for the first time this year, and despite kirk having eight million random freelancing W2s, it was really only that one 1099 that went haywire. having moved states, we did pay extra to e-file in two states, but i'm willing to swallow the fee since our refund is so high, plus the $1200 of blood money from mr president's stimulus package (& doesn't that sound dirty, now that i type it out?).

mr. president has yet to stimulate me with blood money.

it is dirty. it's like he's taking a shit in my mouth.
i kinda don't want the money.

the stimulating package

i'm going to take his dirty money, and use it to pay off some credit card debt. take that, economy! i'm removing money from you!

no wait, actually we might be using it for plane tickets.

yeah. i thought i'd use it for credit card debt as well, but in reality, it will probably also be for plane tickets. too many places to go over the coming months.
