good things this weekend

• huge treasure of leeks in the garden
• roller derby on friday, a rather sloppy round 1 against norcal and then a more impressive round 2 interleague bout (too hot to stay for rounds 3 & 4)
• trying to make my own vinaigrette
• pulling endless weeds from the back planting beds, and finding what may be a massive stand of asparagus (too late to be cut for this season)
• first farmer's market trip of the season, and going early to get the last dozen farm eggs
• yoga (cheap) and hula dancing (free!) lessons at work

i know!! i tried belly dancing once, hopefully i can apply my dance-ignorant-yet-good-at-isolations hoodoo to this class.

[ i keep meaning to ask you if you've heard about this, every time i read something about it, and then i forget. did you know that drew barrymore is directing a movie about the roller derby world? and, even better, that the wonderfully acerbic ellen page is going to be in it? it's going to be based on shauna cross's novel, derby girl, apparently. have you read it? and i love the farmer's market. my mum and i go every friday and although i am usually half asleep, i love all the seasonal produce. it makes everything in the supermarket look so insipid. what kind of vinaigrette are you making? and leeks. yum. i have a wonderful leek and potato soup recipe, but i am thinking it is probably getting a bit warm in your part of the world to be contemplating soup for dinner. i kept thinking of you last night as i watched the news on CNN and they showed obama's rally in portland -- 75,000 people! god i hope he wins. be glad i am on the opposite side of the world as i might well have dragged you there with me. ha. ]
