what's on your list? i am a little exhausted just writing this all out. as is my savings account. though it's an improvement from earlier this year, when all i could think was "yuck" and "get me out" in relation to our condo.

i'm also exhausted thinking about these repairs...getting our homeowners' insurance to cover our sliding glass door took about two dozen phone calls (with me being *very* insistent) to move forward over a month's time, and meanwhile the dishwasher guy and the glass repair people NEVER call us back. is it because it's december? or because everyone is going out of business? ridiculous.

yes, spiders! apparently their webs were all over the opening where the gas comes out and when it came on it melted or something and GAH SPIDERS. of course, it's not really an area we can get into easily. we have to remove the grate, remove the glass, etc etc. but yeah, total gross-out.

i know i have a much longer list in my head of stuff we *could* do -- for instance the bathrooms are fine and workable but aren't really my style, would require ripping out the cabinetry and floor, etc. same with some of the kitchen fixtures. but sometimes it seems like it's all part of the Recently Built Condo Aesthetic and if we change it we might just...reduce the market value? ugh. since i see this as a short-term house (five years max, please god let us be out in five years, max) i'm super reluctant to do anything more, you know? aside from basic stuff like flooring that i know is guaranteed to increase value.

also re insurance, the dude kept saying "well normally we wouldn't cover such a small amount over your deductible ($175!) but i can write up an exception." i was like, seriously? what the fuck is the point of having insurance if you don't cover small amounts? bullshit. plus $175 is not pocket change to me, either. i have a feeling if i had not been up this guy's ass (hate u forever, liberty mutual!) with about 2-3 calls per week i would have never heard a single thing from them, ever. what a load of foot-dragging nonsense that was!

I like seeing other people's lists, house-ish and otherwise.

But oof, my list until recently was:
- make the 2nd bedroom into a cozy reading space as opposed to the explosion of never-unpacked-even-though-we've-been-here-almost-2-years that it is now
- figure out where random furniture we picked up on the sidewalk (trunk/bench, plus a shelf-y thing with baskets - like this but only the leftmost section of it - http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S29884439/) goes
- get an electrician to figure out why the kitchen light doesn't work properly when it rains (it takes, like, 5 minutes to turn on)

But, uh, now that's changed to:
- find someplace new to live
- that's still in the part of Brooklyn I want to live in
- and is no more than $200/month more than what we're currently paying

Well since we have an apartment, & we rent, I don't have nearly the same kind of list. ALSO, secretly-- Jenny would disagree!-- my list is always "more bookshelves." MOAR MOAR MOAR.

LR
- put a mantle on the fireplace
- would like to do something to make the fireplace usable

Office
- rip down old crappy shelves
- build new shelves
- paint
- better curtains
- ideally, fix the drop ceiling

K
- new stove
- ideally, new countertops
- tear out weird cabinets at end and do something better with the nook

Main Bath
- ideally, install a tub or shower where the MBr closet is
- new vanity
- new toilet

MBr
- paint
- create a closet if we ever do actually put in a tub in the bathroom

Up Bath
- fix tub jet
- new vanity
- new tiles or something to make it look less dated
- will probably have to reinstall flooring as old owners did it wrong

Guest bedroom
- new bedding
- paint

Basement
- probably some horrendously expensive water drainage system needs to be put in
- replace damaged flooring in finished area
- repaint
- new electrical wire to the house

outside?
- fix up the porch so it's usable
- auto garage opener
- tear out and put in a new driveway since ours is so warped
- complete overhaul of front landscape
- new siding

The mind boggles and I bet we won't do most of this :P.
